Hebrew Letters

Alef

Alef is the first letter in the Living Letter Alphabet and symbolizes the One and Only, symbolic for the concept of God. It is a letter that has no sound. Having no sound is another way of saying, having no words or thoughts. In many of the meditation traditions, the purpose of the meditation is to clear your mind and to be in a state of stillness and silence. It is at these times that we have the greatest connection with our personal understanding of the One and Only. In Kabbalistic lore, the Alef represents the primal force of energy before any form can be visualized. The Alef shape resembles an individual ready to act in the world. It represents the numerical value of one.

Alef is the primal force of creation, an individual ready to act in the world. The letter is most recognizable from one direction, which is the traditional way to view the letter when you read it. I find it an interesting idea that it can also be view in 3 dimensional forms and in doing so the image changes and becomes initially unfamiliar, and yet it is an "Alef". Similar to life, when we change our point of view we may see things in a different way.
