Hebrew Word Hadassah

Bronze Sculpture for Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel.

Hey is the first letter, in the Hebrew name Hadassah. There is a space between the left leg of the letter and its main body. This is like a path. The two Heys in the name also create a  path, which the other letters in the name are held between. Hey has a breath like sound, almost like breathing. Symbolic of the effortless creation of the world, and a state of consciousness that is uplifting.Dalet has the shape of an open door. It points to one who knocks on doors, asking for help, and those who respond to those in need. It stands for the mitzvot, of man’s conduct and obligation regarding his fellow man.  Samech is a closed round letter and represents the idea of Divine support and protection. It is the idea of a higher power that aids our missions here on earth. The final Hey, creates the other edge of the pathway, and makes clear the path that we are following. The Hebrew letters suggests that the Hospital and Organization that bears the name “Hadassah”, are honored with a Divine mission, a mitzvot of our human obligation to bring care to humanity, in the form of medicine, research and teaching.

One

The Word “One”

The letter Alef, points to the concept of God, and a singular energy that exists, before anything is realized or visualized in the physical plane. In Chet, the eighth letter in the Living Language we are introduced to a level above the spiritual, which is the Divine. In Dalet we are asked to walk through the door that allows us to see that our understanding of God, or the Divine, are with us in every mundane interaction, if only we would have the eyes to see what is before us.
